Parenting Talk: What your Child really needs during the third lockdown

Parenting Talk:

What an exhausting and relentless task it is to be a parent right now.

You are likely to be trying to juggle parenting, working and education for your children all at the same time.

If it feels impossible, you are not alone. You may be longing for time off but with little prospect on the horizon.

You are invited to join a conversation with Dr Kathryn Hollins who will share some ideas and tips to help you during this crazy time. She will touch on some helpful concepts from Circle of Security that can help us meet our children’s needs. These will include being ‘bigger, stronger, wiser and kind’, and why ‘time in’ with your children can work better and be more satisfying than ‘time out’. There will also be a chance to ask questions.

TIme: 12.00-1.00pm live, or a recording can be sent to you for later viewing

Date: 29th January 2021

Cost: £5

Location: Online

Dr Kathryn Hollins (www.drkathrynhollins.com) is committed to empowering parents to meet the emotional and developmental needs of their children. She works closely with Connected Lives in advocating the Circle of Security parenting programme with parents.

She is a Consultant Parent, Child and Family Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist by profession. In the NHS she engages with Surrey-wide consultation and collaboration across health, education, voluntary sector and local authority, in particular to transform how we support parents and families from pregnancy into the early years. She has a small private practice.

The delights of the digital world means we can join from anywhere, so please send onto anyone you think might be interested.

Helping your Tweens and Teenagers with their Big Emotions during these Difficult Times

Some might say that our tweens and teens are having the hardest time in lockdown - just when they are starting to look to their peers for connection they have been thrown back into family life in a big way.

However, as parents we can use this enforced period of togetherness to really help them understand their feelings and process them, building resilience that will help them, not just with their relationship with us, but with all their relationships throughout their lives.

So rather than focus on the bad behaviour, moodiness, anger and jealousy that you might be experiencing, join us to understand how you can see beyond these frustrations and help your children understand what is driving their behaviour and together you can be their for them and validate their feelings and big emotions.

Venue: Online platform

Time: 8.00-9.00pm. Don’t worry if you cant join at this time, register and we will send you a link to listen at a later stage.

Date: 14th July 2020 or afterwards

Cost: £5

Marriage Preparation

Marriage Preparation

All couples spend large amounts of time during their engagement preparing for their big day. Preparing for your wedding day is obviously important (and hopefully fun). Preparing for the rest of your married life is important too!  Decades of research have been done on how couples can ensure that they enjoy a long-lasting mutually fulfilling marriage.

The marriage preparation course we run draws on other people’s expertise and seeks to help individual couples prepare in the best way possible for their life ahead. Each evening we give couples the chance to explore key areas of their relationship with the aim of helping them prepare emotionally and relationally for a wonderful life together.

We have run Marriage Preparation Courses for a number of years and have helped at least 300 couples through them.  The course is open to anyone considering marriage, engaged or within the first year of married life.

The next course will be on Saturday 26th October, 9.30 am- 5 pm at St Marys church. It will cost £20 per person to help cover our running costs.
